“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
That is the way Margaret “Peg” Miller is living her life – 90 years on October 18th. Four generations of the Miller family gathered in Orrville to help her celebrate her birthday – coming from Detroit, Michigan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Delaware, Ohio.
Family has always been a four daughters – Caroline, Annmary, Jenny and Christine – 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Each Christmas, the family gathers at Peg’s house to celebrate the birth of Christ and each summer they gather at the family cottage on Lake Erie.
In 1981 Peg & John bought the cottage at Lakeside, Ohio – “Little Gray Lady” -- which remains a gathering place for the extended family. While at Lakeside each summer, Peg has always enjoyed attending the evening programs, eating ice cream, taking walks on Lake Erie and taking care of her family.
Peg was born on a Saturday and is a true "Saturday's Child" - full of work. She loves taking care of others before herself and is very tradition oriented.
Peg was born in 1919 in Canton. She attended Canton McKinley High School, Kent State University and the Francis Payne School of Nursing at Western Reserve University. She moved to Orrville in 1948, when she and her husband John, a doctor, relocated to start a family medicine practice. Peg & John were married in 1944. John died of cancer in 1984.
Through her life in Orrville she has been involved with the United Way, United Methodist Women and Girl Scouts, as well as working as a poll worker for elections.
Peg says she is very fortunate for her good health. She still exercises every day, drives and lives on her own.
