Advent Sunday School: Christmas Unwrapped
by Jane Disbury
What’s happening? Wassail, trees decorated, star tree shopping, etc… The spirit here is wonderful! Last year was my first Christmas at Trinity, and it was the most spirit filled Christmas I have experienced with a church body. From the educational perspective, we’re ready for some wonderful Advent Studies. Hold onto your hats…It’s a pretty extensive list:
Action Class will study with James Moore, one of their favorite authors. The study is called “What Do You Want for Christmas?”
Chapel Class does this quarter on “Christ, the Fulfillment”. Specific focus will be the “promised birth fulfilled, evidences of Jesus as Messiah, and
testimonies to Jesus as Messiah”.
S.O.F.A. Class will be doing a light-hearted “The Gospel According to Peanuts”.
Synergy has been out doing good works and I’m sure they will have something extra special for Advent.
ALPHA Class going strong, meets once a month, just received a Christmas booklet “Why Jesus”
A special 8:50 – 9:30 a.m. class: “Advent Conspiracy” in Annex room, led by Don Hart. *timely enough for either early or late service attendees …and about this thing called “Advent Conspiracy”: If you have spent a lifetime struggling to find the true spirit of Christ amidst all the tinsel, and feel you’re an oddball, alone with this strange mindset, well, breath deep: That’s the majority of us, and that’s what Advent Conspiracy is all about. This could be just the class we (fat but starving seekers) need.
Young Followers of Christ… (K-6) You won’t want to miss your Sunday school hour during Advent. (Advent means “watching for”) This season, we will have a rotation model entitled “Christmas Messengers”. We will explore how angels have an important part to play in the Christmas story and how God sends messages to people today. You will also get an opportunity to cook, and that’s always a hit, isn’t it!
Mid-Week Services:
Special invite from Hazel Holbert, teacher:
You are invited to be part of a 4-week Bible study to be held on Wednesday mornings, during Advent (Dec. 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd) in the library at 9:30 a.m. Bring your Bible and the Upper Room. Scriptures given the week before in the Upper Room daily devotions will be basis for this time of sharing and preparing our hearts for this joyous celebration of our Lord’s birth. (If Hazel can teach as well as she does announcements, we’re in for a treat! –
Throughout the Advent weeks: With our building all decorated (compliments to wassail party) and with our sanctuaries (main and chapel) bathed in His love, I encourage you to come often throughout the season. Come as often as possible and just sit quietly there in His presence. Wait for Holy Spirit to come and minister to your heart. If you are able, kneel at the altar, offering your life afresh to Him. May Holy Spirit breathe life into you, and into each one of us. May we all become pregnant with purpose –His divine purpose.
