United Methodist Women News:
What a wonderful service we had on our United Methodist Women’s Sunday – hearing the level of enthusiasm of Thom and Chris Denman as they spoke about their service at the JOY Center of the Red Bird Missionary Conference was awesome. You would have thought it was only their first or second year there, not going on their 30th!! Oh, that we would all be that exuberant about spreading the good news! An additional $904 was collected that morning, making the total given for them $2425 for Christmas gifts for the children. Thank you to all who were able to contribute to this worthy cause.
Other highlights of the morning included:
· The presentation of a beautiful “Tree of Life” quilt made by Juanita Tibbitts and given to Thom and Chris by the United Methodist Women;
· Rev. Dave’s blessing of the quilt and the numerous sweaters and scarves made by the Angels of Comfort, many of which will go to the JOY Center children;
· A review of the work of our United Methodist Women this past year (this will be updated and included in the January Trumpet); and
· Special Recognition of two of our congregation’s “saints” – Dan Holderman and Hazel Hobert
Following the service, a reception/coffee hour was held for the Denmans. A video of the JOY Center’s 25th anniversary was played and members had an opportunity to reminisce with Thom and Chris. Thank you to all who made this day possible.
Thank you to all who helped make my four years as president an easy job. A special thank you to Nancy Nussbaum – they say that behind every successful person is a good woman, and Nancy is the woman who really runs UMW!! Her many years of experience keeps us all on track. She does an excellent job as our Treasurer, and if Nancy doesn’t know the answer to a question, no one does! Thank you Nancy, and all the executive committee members for your assistance.
